Even amid the current health crisis in New York and around the world, it has not waivered Governor Cuomo’s push to legalize recreational marijuana. Legalization has been included in the state’s new budget proposal. A few steps toward legalization are taking a back seat, such as the Governor’s plans to visit other states to research their recreational marijuana regulations.
Polls continue to show that New Yorkers want recreational marijuana legalized, the Press Republican reported. Economic justice is just one aspect that Drug Policy Alliance wants to see implemented. The communities most heavily impacted by prohibition would be the focal point.
Kassandra Frederique of Drug Policy Alliance said, “Our regulation framework must center on people who have been impacted by the drug war, create equity and diversity, and support small businesses and farmers.”
Governor Cuomo said, “There are many policy issues that I laid out back in January and we’re going to pursue all of them.”
