New York Opens Applications for Researching and Growing Hemp

Hemp

For those that wish to participate in New York’s industrial hemp industry, the application process is now open. The state will be looking to approve applications for researchers, farmers and other businesses. Governor Cuomo believes that industrial hemp will help boost the economy of rural communities and farm areas.

Cuomo allocated $10-million of state funds in July to boost research and development of industrial hemp, according to WIBX 950 Radio. Hemp won’t get anyone high, but it is quite useful in the production of textiles. It’s also used as a food supplement and other products – including hemp CBD products.

The pilot program for industrial hemp farming was launched in 2016 with some expansions taking place this year.

Applications are being accepted by the agricultural department until November 22.
