New York Adds Chronic Pain as Medical Marijuana Qualifying Condition

The New York medical marijuana program may finally be getting the boost in patient numbers that it needs to survive. Tens of thousands of patients with chronic pain disorders will now qualify for the state’s program. On March 22nd, those suffering with chronic pain may begin applying for medical marijuana cards.

Tthe New York Department of Health announced the addition of the condition, according to WHEC 10 News.  The state also voted to approve doctor assistants to write recommendations for medical marijuana. The supervising doctor has to be certified as well.

No doctor assistants may write recommendations for medical marijuana without working under a state-registered doctor that is on the state’s registry for medical marijuana certifications. Patients can begin scheduling appointments for on and after March 22nd to begin the process of certification.
