New York Marijuana Advocates Renew Push For Recreational Legalization

New York’s legislative session ends in just a few days and some lawmakers are advocating for recreational marijuana. Some community advocates have also joined the renewed efforts. Senator Liz Krueger and Assembly member Crystal Peoples-Spokes joined advocates to announce the reintroduction of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

Legislative committees have previously stalled efforts to legalize recreational marijuana in New York, according to WIBX 950 Radio.  It is estimated that New Yorkers spend roughly $3-billion annually on marijuana. The bill is aiming to legalize, tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. The potential tax revenue from legalization is a considerable amount considering the already existing black market and medical marijuana program.

They may reach a wall if the bill does make it to Governor Cuomo’s desk as he is not ready for recreational marijuana yet.
