More Improvements Coming for New York’s Medical Marijuana Program

New York Medical Cannabis

As part of the efforts to expand the New York medical marijuana program, patients may soon be able to use their medicine while admitted to the hospital. Hospitals would be given the task of creating proper policies. The regulation should take effect in February 2017.

Many positive changes are coming to New York’s medical marijuana program in 2017, Syracuse.com reports. Some of the additional changes are that the state will be allowing companies to offer more medical marijuana brands. Dispensaries are currently capped at 5 brands.

Chronic pain is being added to the list of qualifying conditions in 2017. This will expand the patient base by huge numbers, thus increasing the demand for medical marijuana in the state. Following a 45-day required public comment period, chronic pain will be officially added to the qualifying conditions list.

Regarding use of medical marijuana in hospitals, not all hospitals may adopt the policy to allow patients to use medical marijuana on-premises.
