Cannabis Cup in Colorado Finds New Location in Pueblo

Cannabis Cup 2016

Following the denial of an event permit from Adams County (in north Denver), High Times has found a new location to hold this year’s U.S. Cannabis Cup festivities. The event is now planned for Pueblo, Colorado, two hours south of Denver International Airport.

The permitting process has begun for the new location. The event is a 3-day event and expects to admit 17,000 people per day. Southern Colorado has more open space to hold events of this size. The previous location, Denver Mart, which was denied permitting, raised concerns for safety and overcrowding.

Marisol Therapeutics operations manager, Chris Jones, says, “I think it’s a good chance for Pueblo’s economy to really boost, as well as for Pueblo to demonstrate that we have a lot more to offer than just quality marijuana.”

Some, including drug addiction counselor Bill Mead, oppose the event. He told News 5 that it was the first he’d heard of the U.S. Cannabis Cup. He also claims that he “does not feel as comfortable leaving his home unattended during the Cannabis Cup.”

Chris Jones reassures worriers by saying, “I don’t think anyone’s in danger from all these visitors coming. The most I can say is you might want to make sure that your local restaurants are stocked up.”

Denver’s economy received a huge boost from last year’s Cannabis Cup event. It has also created 80 new businesses from those that chose to move to Colorado permanently after the event. Tickets will go on sale next week, even while the permitting process is ongoing. You must be 21 years
